The next Social Media PitchYrCulture – Feb. 17 at 8pm at XXX in Sheung Wan

The next PitchYrCulture will be in conjunction with Social Media Week, a worldwide event that deals with the impact that social media has had on they way we interact, how we organize events, and for our purposes, how we consume and share music. Of course these changes in terms of music have been obvious yet ground shaking.

Beginning with the shift from analog to digital in the late 1980s, from the semi-obsolesce of vinyl records to the practically obsolete CD, we have witnessed the collapse of old business models, the contentious legal battles in relation to the uploading and downloading of music, and a cultural situation that has exposed the average consumer to an unending variety of music through the simple click of a mouse (or the swipe of a screen).

The ramifications appear to be futuristic, with the newest musical obscurity possibly going viral (directly accessing the individual consumer), reaching an audience with an entirely new make-up in an entirely unforeseen way. Yet paradoxically, we can also move backwards in history, into corners of the musical world that we never knew existed as dedicated collectors blog their obsessions, exposing us to everything from entire avant-garde Jazz catalogs to African crate-digging gold to live hardcore Punk recorded in obscure venues.

We hope you will be able to make it to this event as we delve into this aspect of up-to-the-minute music distribution and consumption - to be held at XXX in Sheung Wan on Friday February 17 at 8pm.
